The Major Chakras

Feel Your Prana

Prana and Nadis

Chakras and Asanas

Chakra is a Sanskrit word, which translates as "wheel." Over thousands of years philosophers, mystics and yogis have described the subtle, and not so subtle energies of our natural environment and our own bodies in many ways. What is particularly interesting is that when dynamic energies converge in nature they tend to form spinning circular patterns. Look at how water spins in spiral eddies. Oh the shape of a hurricane. Using data from the GOES weather satellites, this computer-generated image of Hurricane Fran in September 1996 shows just such a natural vortex.

The human body has it’s own subtle energy system. There are several terms that have been used to describe the energy that runs through the body, these include chi and prana. Both these terms can translate as energy or life-force. Indeed, if you check out the GreatYoga.com content related to pranayama, you will learn about the relationship between this energy and the way you breath.

The flow of prana through a network of power centers, paths and energy fields within and around the physical body are referred to as our energetic anatomy, or energy body. Some people call this your “aura.” Whatever the terminology, your energy body is a three-dimensional field of prana that moves from inside your physical body and emanates outward.

Now if the concept of prana, or body energy, only conjures up ordering a double latte’, then by all means keep reading! We will provide some exercises that can show you how to better understand, feel and impact this energy in your own body. Chakras are considered to be power centers that both take in and distribute prana. Chakras are miniature versions of the hurricane. They are spinning energy centers. Your energetic anatomy contains three types of charkras.
