Hakini Mudra

I like to call this the “what was his name?” mudra.
The Hakini Mudra is helpful when you would like to remember something or receive inspiration. Place your fingertips together. Direct your eyes upward. Now place the tip of your tongue on your upper gums as you inhale; then let the tongue fall again on an exhale.

Now take a deep breath. What you want to remember should come to mind. This mudra is also useful when you must concentrate on something for a long period of time, need some good ideas, or want to remember something that you have read.

In terms of the "science" behind the mudra, researchers have determined that this hand position promotes cooperation between your right and left brain hemispheres (whole-brain thinking). It is believed that it can help you more easily access your right hemisphere. This is the side of the brain where your memory is stored. This mudra can build up energy of your lungs; improves respiration and therefore generally help your brain function at peak performance.

Another tip: when you are doing mental work make sure you don't cross your feet (which is very easy to do). Flat on the floor is best. Also, sit with your eyes facing toward the west.
